• Scoil Íde, Curranes NS is a rural, co-educational primary school in an
idyllic setting, 5 minutes from Castleisland town.
• Happy Days Pre-School & Curranes Community After-School Service is on-site.
The after-school service operates up to 5pm each evening.
• There is a privately operated bus service to the school
• The school provides FREE instruction in French, set dancing, choir, tin
whistle, Gaelic football, athletics & basketball.
• The school choir will provide the singing for Castleisland Parish First
Holy Communion in May 2018.
• Swimming lessons, gymnastics lessons & school tours are subsidised by an
active & very supportive Parents’ Association.
• The school was awarded Active School Status in June 2017. Aidan O’Mahony
helped the school to raise its Active School Flag. The school is committed
to promoting physical activity throughout the school year.
• The school has a very good relationship with the sporting organisations in
Castleisland town. Our Junior Boys’ Team won the St. Mary’s Christmas Blitz
in December 2016.
• Christmas plays will be held in the school in December 2017.
• The school has been recently extended & renovated to include a hall,
computer room, basketball court & secure outdoor play area.
• Children grow fruit & vegetables in our school garden, with the assistance
of parent, Willie Reidy, who manages the Castleisland Community Garden.
• The school operates a book rental scheme, which substantially reduces back-
to-school costs for parents.
• The school offers the full curriculum, including AISTEAR.
• From September 2017, the school will participate in the School Meals
Scheme. All children will get free healthy snacks on a daily basis.
• We are very proud of our schools colourful, child-friendly & informative
website, which allows us to showcase our work in a controlled & secure
environment.
